Where do BCSC teachers' salaries rank in the state?

There is no perfect way to explain salary ranking because there are so many variables. For example:

According to IDOE figures for 2008-2009 (the most recent information for BCSC teachers, because a contract has not been settled for 2009-2010) Brownsburg has one of the youngest teaching staffs in the state - 299 out of 300 - with an average age of 36.6 years compared to a state average of 42.9 years. Only Avon has a younger staff average. That same IDOE data indicates that Brownsburg's average teacher salary ranks 191 of 294 or $46,900 compared to a state average of $49,600. Thus, the "average salary" is logically skewed toward the bottom since salary and age are directly related. You can find that information at http://mustang.doe.state.in.us/TRENDS/top102.cfm?corp=3305

On the other hand, the Indiana Education Employment Relations Board (IEERB) maintains salary information for all Indiana school teachers by experience level. Of the 224 school districts reporting, beginning Brownsburg bachelors-level teachers rank 7th and beginning masters'-level teachers rank 16th, which would place BCSC teacher salaries, at those levels of experience, in the top 10% of the state. That information is available at this link http://www.in.gov/ieerb/files/2008-2009_Combined_Salary_Stats.XLS if you would like to research the data.
