Actually staff parking is now in front, so they can enter from Odell, and students can enter the west parking areas from Grant St. which does provide some traffic separation.
The drop-off and pick-up procedure at BHS was actually implemented at the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year and was changed because: 1. congestion from traffic entering on Odell made it difficult to exit on Odell, creating a circular traffic jam; 2. students were walking between moving vehicles in the drop off line; and 3. emergency vehicles and personnel could not easily navigate through the congestion.
Traffic entering on Bulldog Blvd. and exiting on Odell creates a much better flow, but it became necessary to strictly enforce it because those who didn't follow the procedure were frustrating those who were. We believe that once everyone is following the proper procedure congestion will diminish and the process will work more smoothly and quickly, thus allowing us to get a more accurate assessment and to tweak where necessary.
With the high volume of vehicle, bus and pedestrian traffic converging on the same location at the same time, it is difficult, if not impossible, to elminate all congestion. Although the procedure may be inconvenient for some, our primary concern remains the safety of our students.
