Why are PSGs being asked to provide $300 per classroom?

The "$300 per classroom" you reference is for wireless slates, devices that leverage the educational power of the classroom projector in advancing student achievement through teacher effectiveness. The opportunity to provide wireless slates has only come together over the past 90 days. As the projectors (referenced in the previous question) were not expected to be in all elementary classrooms in 2010-2011, there was no wireless slate funding planned for 2010.

With the hurdle of bringing video projectors to every classroom now cleared, the next hurdle is the provision of wireless slates. The district is pooling remaining technology equipment purchases with funds from any other available source in order to provide slates for each teacher. PSGs frequently ask what the schools need that they can provide. This seemed to be an opportunity to help align student achievement goals with PSG goals, and so need was communicated. Some PSG's have chosen to help provide funds, others have not for a variety of reasons. Regardless, classroom projectors are fully functional and fully funded. The wireless slates are a wonderful additional teaching tool that we hope to have in every teacher's hands sooner as opposed to later with or without the help of PSGs.
