How can we be sure that our home computers are safe from viruses being spread through the school computers?

BCSC ensures that all campus PC's and servers have virus-scanning software installed and regularly updated against any new threats that may arise. Because the Moodle site is housed locally on BCSC servers, that site is also scanned by our anti-virus software.

We see many viruses that are carried in on student flash drives (12 just in the week from Aug. 26 to Sept. 2). These viruses are stopped by our scanning software as they are detected, so they do not spread through our network.

Virus protection is extremely important on any computer, so we encourage home users to have up-to-date virus protection for their benefit, as well as to minimize the number of viruses that are carried in to BCSC on portable drives. Many companies offer free versions of virus protection software. Some examples are free.avg.com, www.avast.com, Microsoft Security Essentials.
