Every group of BCSC employees, (administrative, classified and certified) has a different compensation package, including salary and benefits. However, the percentage increase given to each group each year has been similar.
Teachers negotiate their salary and benefits and decide how much they want to put in each category. And, even though classified staff does not formally negotiate their salaries and benefits, the Board has always tried to keep benefits for classified staff similar to that of teachers. Administrators sometimes put a larger percentage of their compensation increases into their benefit packages rather than into salary.
In this difficult economic time, it is evident that the entire benefit and compensation package for all staff must be reduced. Thus, all administrators and classified employees as well as teachers at the top of the salary schedule, took a freeze in all benefits, salary and hourly rates for the 2009-10 school year. It is very likely that will need to happen again in 2010-11 to survive the budget cuts made by the state this past month.
