The IHSAA, as well as the National Federation of State High School Associations, has very few regulations regarding the placement, orientation, and configuration of running tracks. As far as orientation, most high school tracks are co-located with a football field, for which there are orientation preferences. As a result, most high school tracks run north-south as a result of the requirement for the football field to run north-south. There are examples of major track and field complexes running east-west, the most notable local example being the IUPUI Track & Field Complex, which has hosted both national and international events, and upon which several national and world records have been set.
The new High School Track & Field facility meets all applicable Indiana High School Athletic Association requirements, and any records set on the track are expected to be fully acceptable to the IHSAA.
