Do administrators still pay $1.00 or less per year for their insurance?

Administrative health insurance benefits have been reduced in both 2009 and 2010. In 2009, the insurance benefit for administrators for which the Board paid, was changed to a higher deductible policy. This reduction in administrative benefit saved the school corporation over $80,000.

Some administrators opted to continue a $1 insurance policy (no one pays less), however, they have moved to the highest deductible policy with an HSA (Health Savings Account) thus potentially increasing their out-of-pocket expense. Others have chosen to pay the 2010 increase in premium themselves and keep the same policy as they had in 2009. For example, the Superintendent has chosen to keep the same policy she had in 2009 and she is paying the increase in premium herself.

In all cases the Board has frozen the amount the Board pays toward the administrative health benefit at the 2009 level. The school corporation will see an additional $12,744 in savings in 2010 because of the reduction in administrative benefits.
