Why are the 8th graders at EMS not allowed to wash their hands/and or use the restroom before lunch?

Students are allowed to go to the restroom or their lockers quickly and then report back to the classroom prior to walking down to lunch. Every classroom has hand sanitizer that students are permitted to use if they prefer, and each cafeteria line has a hand sanitizer station available to students and staff. In addition, students are allowed to visit the restroom during the lunch period.
