4/5/11

In the School Board Meeting Minutes for 2/28 and 3/14 alone….there were 18 teacher retirements and or resignations. How does the school system plan to replace this onslaught of departure in the wake of the financial shortcomings? Will new teachers be hired?

The "onslaught of departure" that you refer to was planned as one of the many ways BCSC is reducing the budget. A teacher at the top of the pay scale (which they have reached by the time they are eligible for retirement) earns significantly more than a teacher with less experience and/or education, thus an incentive was offered to encourage those retirements to save dollars.

In addition, 14 certified staff positions will be eliminated and those individuals moved to classroom teaching positions for next year, some at a reduced salary: 2 Technology Trainers,2 Elementary World Language Teachers, 5 Media Specialists, 5 Elementary Assistant Principals.
