It is essential to the BCSC Vision of Higher Achievement Together that our schools reflect the community. Every parent should anticipate that their child will have access to programs, teachers, facilities and classmates that are as equitable as possible.
Although it creates a great deal of anxiety, redistricting does give the school corporation the opportunity to seriously look at demographics in considering various options or plans when adding a new building. There are many factors to consider in a redistricting plan, but budget and equity of programs are the main drivers.
During the last redistricting, which occurred prior to the opening of Reagan Elementary School in August of 2008, the committee worked hard to achieve parity in both elementary and middle schools. You can read more about that in the April 2008 Spotlight on Education, which is archived on the BCSC website.
